Amnesty International's chapters 9 and 280 in Manhattan Welcome to our website! We are a group of people who meet once a month in midtown Manhattan because of our shared commitment to human rights around the world. We
organise protests and social events - and work with other Amnesty groups in the New York area.
As a group, we're involved in a number of campaigns: we work for the release of Myo Min Zaw, a Burmese student sentenced to 52 years in prison for his pro-democracy activities, writing petitions and
holding demonstrations (see below). Earlier this year we organized a screening of a documentary on Ralph Bunche at the National Arts Club, last year two screenings, with a panel discussion of The Road to Guantanamo. In 2005 we organised a children's war drawings exhibition at Chelsea Art Museum
and at United Nations..And some of our members concentrate on Amnesty's Death Penalty campaign for us, writing letters for the rest of the group to sign. Children's
Rights is one of the subjects that many of 280 & 9 members are interested in. Meetings.
We usually meet once a month on the east side of midtown Manhattan.Contact us if you want to join us. If you want to find a group which is nearer to your work or home, see our Contact page
